Otoplasty
What Is Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is a type of ear surgery during which a plastic surgeon can reshape, resize, and reposition ears. It is a commonly chosen plastic surgery for people who want to fix protruding ears or to give unusual-looking ears a more natural shape.
Otoplasty is performed on the outer ear, which is composed of folds of cartilage. When the cartilage doesn't develop properly in youth, it can negatively affect the size, shape, and position of the ears.

What Makes a Good Candidate?
Adult Patients
It is important to note that we do not perform pediatric plastic surgery. The ears of children 5 years and younger are not fully developed anyway, so the otoplasty is not recommended for them anyway.
Good Overall Health
There are cases where underlying medical conditions or illnesses can make the ear surgery risky or complicate the healing process.
Non-Smokers
Smoking often decreases blood flow to the ears. Being a smoker is likely to slow down and complicate post-surgery healing.
Specific Goals
It is best if you have a clear idea what you want out of otoplasty. Doing this procedure for yourself, rather than because of comments from others will make the process more empowering.
Our plastic surgeons can perform a medical evaluation at our Minnetonka, MN, office and will only recommend otoplasty if we believe you can safely undergo and benefit from the procedure.
The Otoplasty Surgical Timeline
The specifics of your ear surgery will depend on the type of procedure you choose. Generally speaking, this reconstructive surgery is completed at our Minnetonka, MN, office in one to three hours.
