Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty Basics
/
Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that is performed to tighten and smooth skin. This procedure can be used to vastly improve the look of both the upper eyelids and the lower eyelids. While many choose eyelid surgery for cosmetic reasons, some opt for blepharoplasty to improve their vision.
Blepharoplasty Is
Incredibly Popular

If you want to deal with eyelid issues, you are not alone. In fact, in 2019 eyelid surgery was the second most popular surgery out of all cosmetic surgical procedures.
Experience the Board-Certified Difference
Choosing surgery for self-improvement is an important, empowering decision. Minnesota patients who decide to invest in themselves with blepharoplasty deserve care from doctors they can trust. Both of our surgeons, Dr. Stephanie Peng are board-certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgeons.
Board certification indicates an advanced level of knowledge and skill compared to regular surgeons. To achieve this honor, our doctors underwent advanced training and successfully passed rigorous oral and written examinations.

View on GoogleEnvision Your Eyelid Surgery
Our elite surgeons can perform various types of transformative eyelid surgeries. Each begins with precise marking of the eyelids for incision before following different paths depending on your needs. No matter which type you receive, your surgeon will take care to hide the incisions for virtually unnoticeable scarring after surgery.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
This surgery is performed to remove excess fat and to reposition upper eyelids so they do not hang over the whites of your eye. It is particularly popular for patients who feel they have tired-looking eyes, or sagging eyelids. This surgery at our Minnetonka practice is relatively straightforward and has a quick recovery time.
Lower Eyelid Surgeries
There are two major types of lower eyelid blepharoplasty procedures. During both, incisions are made to take care of age-related concerns like bags and dark circles under the eyes. The key difference is whether or not you desire the removal of excess skin and fat.
Ensuring Your Comfort During Surgery
Our team prioritizes patient comfort throughout all procedures. To alleviate anxiety and avoid pain, we offer several sedation and anesthesia options.
For more intensive eyelid surgery cases, or for patients with greater anxiety, we offer general anesthesia. General anesthesia puts you to sleep during your surgery so that you do not have to feel anything during your treatment.
If the only issue you need to be fixed is excess eyelid skin, we can perform your treatment using local anesthesia, which numbs pain and has minimal side effects.
Recovery After Surgery
Regardless of if you choose to improve your upper eyelids or lower eyelids, you will likely experience some natural bruising, pain, and swelling after surgery. By day two, these surgical effects should begin to lessen. As early as two months after your procedure, all residual bruising, pain, and swelling should disappear.
Our doctors will schedule any necessary check-ins at our Minnetonka practice to make sure your recovery goes as well as possible. They will also give you recommendations of what to avoid to help expedite your recovery. Common suggestions include avoiding sun exposure and limiting vigorous physical activity while you recover.
Blepharoplasty Affordability
Eyelid surgery at our Minnetonka, MN, practice costs $5,000 to $7,000. An accurate price can be quoted once Dr. Peng and her team have evaluated your eyelids in person and taken the time to understand your desired improvements. To help alleviate any potential financial concerns, we accept CareCredit®. CareCredit is a third-party financing option that allows our patients to break down their surgery costs into low or no interest monthly payments.
Cosmetic surgeries are not covered by insurance. However, if your eyelid surgery is performed for functional reasons like improving vision, you may receive insurance benefits that otherwise would have been unavailable. Our expert team wants all Minnesota patients to be able to afford the surgeries they desire and will seek maximum insurance benefits on your behalf, if applicable.
